These cheat sheets contain photos of the fundamental poses as well as pictures of the first, second and third Ashtanga yoga series. But in details we will find some minor differences. The powerful flow of a moving meditation is born. This phase on the path of Yoga is called Na?i Sodhana, the cleansing of the energetic channels. Here you will find Ashtanga Yoga as taught by BNS Iyengar (from Mysore). They require more power, flexibility and endurance.Sometimes at this point the physical body is so flexible and powerful that the 1st Series (see there) is no longer adequate as a field for learning. You will need some practice to learn them.Breath (Ujjayi), energy control (Bandha) and focus (???ti) become continuously more deep in experience. (Vinyasa). The breathing (Ujjayi) calms down, muscle contractions (Bandha) become subtle and concentration (? Ashtanga Yoga.
The backbends open energy channels and stretch the spine. The series sets the yogi on the path to the ultimate goal of Self-realization.Among those poses are: Eka pada Koundinyasana B Chakorasana Kala bhairavasana Urdhva kukkutasana A, B and C Eka pada Galavasana Eka pada bakasana A and B Koundinyasana A and B Astavakrasana The third series of Ashtanga yoga also includes intense backbends such as viparita dandasana A and B, viparita shalabhasana, rajakapotasana and eka pada rajakapotasana. Here's a quiz to help you figure out which one.In between, the yogi performs one of six series, which increase in difficulty.Arm-balancing poses are key components of the third series, requiring the yogi to work with gravity to maintain stability. The focus continues to be on energy flow, with additional emphasis The Lesson of Third Series.
Special thanks to Susan Su for getting up early to film me before her practice. The videos are shot between 3 am and 5 am, which is the time the I usually practice before teaching Mysore style classes in town.I did this for about 6 months and included Full Vinyasa in my intermediate and 3rd series practices as well, to keep the energy consistent. As usual, the clips are unedited and unrehearsed. When my teacher Rolf split my 3rd and 4th series practice into two separate practices in January 2013, he suggested using Full Vinyasa as a way to help me adapt to 4th series as a stand-alone practice. As the clips are unedited and taken from real full series practices, they portray the various stiffnesses and imbalances which are inevitable in most practices.Imperfections are not edited out, so that they give an accurate portrayal of what real, every day practice is actually like. What is the Third Series of Ashtanga Yoga.

And I’m not the only one that forgets that THAT DON’T MEAN SHIT by itself.Like, “Look at how evolved and successful I am because I got off the asana train before some smart sounding dude could write an article about how it’s wrecked my body. ( Yes, I actually said this.I thought about the community I’ve helped build, locally and globally. But that’s for me to explore with my teacher now.You didn’t believe me to be a better person when I was doing arm balances any more than you believe me to be diminished in one that is seated. And maybe she was too, but it certainly didn’t show.) But what I really meant to say was, I don’t want people to see I’m a failure. In fact, I remember the very day I last practiced that full series. And is likely the inspiration for me to write today.I am enjoying my bestie, Jen, really come into her own through her asana practice. Here at the Dispatch, we are are dedicated to spreading the message that this yoga is for every body and everyone is welcome.I know what a year this has been for her and to see her empowered is pure joy.
